Positive Self-Talk: In the Moment
- When you find yourself with a negative thought challenge it!
- Ask yourself questions to guide positive action: “why am I anxious” “what is in my control” “what can I do right now”
- Use positive statements in response to these questions: “I can succeed” “I can accomplish my goals” “I am a good person” “I can overcome this obstacle” “I can learn from my mistakes and experiences”
Positive Self-Talk: Daily Routine
Use: “I AM” & “I CAN” statements: “I am strong” “I am capable” “I will succeed” “I will grow” “I can learn”
Use daily affirmations that are positive, short, believable and focused. Post them in your house, office, on mirrors, cupboards, appliances and carry them with you in your purse/bag.
Positive Scripts: Tell yourself the same positive story (in which you achieve your realistic & focused goals) that runs like a movie in your mind
Remember you can learn to be positive and you can learn to be happy just like you can learn to ride a bike.
